SAN DIEGO, CA (November 14, 2019)—Two dedicated San Diego philanthropists with strong ties to Walden Family Services were introduced as 2020 Women of Dedication by the San Diego branch of the Salvation Army Auxiliary at an elegant tea at the La Jolla Country Club.

Jackie Helm is a current Walden board member and dedicated advocate for children in foster care. Helm is an award-winning real estate broker specializing in residential sales, and she believes deeply in the importance of supporting her community. In addition to chairing the Las Patronas Jewel Ball, she’s been on the board of the Foundation of La Jolla High School, National Charity League, and the National Cheers Foundation. Her commitment to children in foster care led her to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) through Voices for Children for four years before joining the Walden board.

Denise Jackson is the CEO and president of Balboa Travel and a leader in the travel industry both locally and nationally. She has a particular interest in expanding career opportunities and internships for youth as well as promoting participation in STEM and arts education. She has worked on board and committees of the San Diego Urban League, The Links, and Girl Friends, Inc., in addition to serving on the Walden board for four years. Jackson has been instrumental in securing the exclusive vacation opportunities featured during Walden’s annual gala auction for several years, yielding thousands of dollars benefitting children and youth in foster care.

“We’re very proud of our Women of Dedication,” said Walden CEO Teresa Stivers. “These women are exemplary community volunteers and philanthropists and we’re very fortunate to have them in our corner. We’re also especially proud of our own Director of Philanthropy Kathryn Stephens, who’s chairing the event in April.”

Past Women of Dedication with Walden ties include Kathryn Stephens; Walden gala chairs Vicki Eddy, Caroline Nierenberg, Micki Olin, and Marty Pendarvis; longtime Walden supporter Mary Alice Brady; and Walden Director of Marketing Lydia McNeil.

The 2020 Women of Dedication will be honored on April 9, 2020 at the Marriott Marquis and Marina. The event theme is “2020 – Women of Vision: The Future of Philanthropy,” and will be chaired by Andrea Naversen, Kathryn Stephens, and Maggie Watkins. Tickets for the 700-person event support the Salvation Army Auxiliary’s programs for women, children and families in San Diego.
