The California Affordable and Foster Youth Housing Finance Innovation Act – AB 2674, introduced by Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo, D-Chatsworth, cleared the Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee last week with unanimous support from committee members. The bill, which aims to encourage private sector investment in affordable housing tailored specifically for foster youth and low-income families, is now ready to move on to the next step.
During the committee hearing, Sue Evans, Chief Operating Officer of Walden Family Services, expressed gratitude for the bill sponsors and supporters. “We are incredibly thankful for the leadership of Assemblywoman Schiavo and all those who have championed AB 2674,” stated Evans. “Their dedication to addressing the critical housing needs of foster youth and low-income families is commendable, and this bill represents a significant step forward in ensuring these vulnerable populations have access to stable, secure housing.”
Supporters of AB 2674 include Walden Family Services (Non-Profit Sponsor), Children Now, Safe Place for Youth, Good River Partners, First Place for Youth, California Alliance for Children and Family Services and the Youth Law Center.

Through diverse programs and initiatives, Walden aims to create stable, nurturing environments that enable children and young adults in need to thrive and realize their full potential. This includes providing transitional housing and support services to help transition-aged youth develop the skills and structure they need to succeed in adulthood.
