Foster Care & Adoption

Foster and adoptive resource families play a crucial role in providing children with a safe, stable, and loving home environment. These families offer support until children can reunite with their birth families or become part of a forever family when reunification is not possible.

Walden’s foster care and adoption program cater to infants, sibling groups, LGBTQ youth, and children with various needs, including developmental disabilities, emotional and behavioral challenges, or special healthcare needs. We are committed to ensuring that every child grows up surrounded by the love and sense of community that family life provides. With a growing need for homes for sibling groups, older children, and teens, we welcome families from diverse backgrounds.

What We Do

At Walden, resource families undergo comprehensive training to become integral members of a child’s treatment team. They utilize individualized treatment strategies to meet each child’s unique needs and provide a safe, supportive home environment for everyday activities. Our families actively participate in treatment planning, receiving ongoing training, in-home supervision, and professional support.

Additionally, Walden families engage in educational planning meetings, therapy sessions, court hearings, and medical care appointments, ensuring the holistic growth and development of the children in their care. We prioritize maintaining a connection between the child and their birth family through regular communication, visits, and collaborative decision-making regarding the child’s best interests.

Foster Care and Foster to Adoption

Our resource families are approved to provide short-term foster care, with the primary goal of reunifying the child with their birth family. In cases where reunification is not possible, Walden resource parents are “adoption ready” to provide a forever family through adoption. There are many older children, sibling groups, and children with specialized needs awaiting adoption in California.

Walden serves children, youth, and families across Southern California, with offices in the following locations:

  • Los Angeles County and surrounding counties
  • Riverside and San Bernardino Counties
  • San Diego and Imperial County

Children who grow up with the support of a family are more likely to develop the skills needed to become contributing members of the community as adults. Many of these children have experienced traumatic events, such as neglect, abuse, or caregiver addiction, making it essential for caregivers to patiently help them build trusting relationships.

Join us in making a difference in the lives of foster youth by becoming a foster or adoptive parent with Walden Family Services. Together, we can provide the stability, love, and support every child deserves.

“We live in a world in we need to share responsibility. It’s easy to say ‘It’s not my child, not my community, not my problem.’ Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.”

– Fred Rogers
